The Effortless Power of Intentions | How to find yourself when you lose yourself

It does not matter what period of life we are in or what level of success we have achieved, no one is excluded from feeling lost in life. Most people after achieving their highest level of success are often left wondering what comes next. They then find themselves in limbo. This cycle of going from feeling grounded to a state of limbo is an integrated aspect of being human that manages to creep into the cracks of our life due to overactivity, unconsciousness, and routine. This is the perfect moment to ask for what we want. That inquiry can lead people down a spiral of feeling lost in life, directionless, and dissatisfied at not getting the result they want. If we are left not knowing what we want, this then is where intention becomes an effortless and powerful tool to catapult us out of a catatonic state of existence.

I believe in setting intentions; Oprah also believes in setting intentions which means it really does work. Diane Von Furstenberg has a beautiful quote. She states in many of her interviews, “I didn't know what I wanted to do, but I always knew the woman I wanted to be.” This is where the magic is. We don’t have to know all the answers nor do we need to perfectly plan out our futures because we are always in control of who we become. We choose who we become by setting intentions…or neglecting to set them.

Intention is not an expectation. It is about being open to an experience we want to have. The keyword is “open.” Life experiences often carry more flavors than we could possibly imagine. By setting an intention we direct or redirect our energy and give it a job. How many times have we heard someone say they don’t have the energy? Could that be because it’s gone to excessive thinking or situations that they didn’t need to give their energy to? We are made of energy and matter, so where we put our energy matters. Setting an intention puts an emphasis on the feeling we want to experience and our focus on that feeling helps it to expand which then motivates us to repeat the experience.

Set your intentions, set them daily, and set them frequently. What do you want to experience? What do you want to feel? What idea are you striving for? For me, it can be something as simple as eating with the intention to fuel my body instead of mindlessly overeating. Perhaps for you, it is setting the intention to only watch one-hour of tv and productively put the remainder of your energy into building your side hustle. Every day, every moment carries the value you give it.

The reality is that we aren’t lost, we feel like we are. Intention helps us to tap into knowing how we feel by claiming it. Knowing who we are and where we are give us a pretty good idea of where we are going. That once distant confidence, clarity, and contentment then becomes our current reality.
